My little sister made me cry on Christmas. In front of everybody.
Before Lil’Tex came along, the embarrassment of shedding tears would have made me run red-cheeked and blotchy-faced from the room. But after experiencing the ups and downs of pregnancy and post-partum emotions, I feel like a few honest tears are nothing to get all riled up about. There’s no shame in expressing an honest emotion. And believe me, mothers who put nine months of hard work into making a healthy baby – not to mention the lifetime of hard work ahead – will experience plenty of raw emotions. So let me share with you how we found out we were pregnant this time around. In one sense, it was very much the same as last time. And in another, very different.
When those hormones surge in the early stages of pregnancy, I burp. A lot. This is something I don’t normally do. Honestly, I’m just not the belching type. And that’s why I took notice of it with both pregnancies. Yes, as unromantic as it may sound, burping is the reason I took a pregnancy test both times.
